Not sure whether you’re a junior or a mid-level? Better to err on the side of caution, take the mid-level one.
What This Is
The Success Quotient Audit is a practical diagnostic tool for junior and mid-level associates designed to show you where you're strong, where you're vulnerable, and what deserves your attention next as an associate.
It takes 7-10 minutes to complete and assesses you across 8 core competencies that determine success at law firms:
Quality Work - Are you delivering work that's correct, useful, and proportional?
Reliability - Can people count on you to deliver on your commitments?
Improvement - Are you getting better fast enough?
Soft Skills - Can you read the room and build genuine relationships?
Taking Ownership - Do you treat files like they're yours?
Attitude - What energy do you bring to the office?
Business of Law - Do you understand the economics that drive decisions?
Relationships - Are you building your network intentionally?
At the end, you'll get your scores and personalized guidance on which chapters of The Successful Associate will help you most.
Why We Built It This Way
This audit emerged from 18 months of interviews with managing partners, department heads, chief people officers, and talent directors across North America. We asked them: What actually determines whether an associate succeeds?
The patterns were clear. Success isn't about working the most hours or being the smartest person in the room. It's about mastering a specific set of competencies - and knowing which ones need your attention right now.
We separated the junior and mid-level versions because expectations change. What's impressive for a first-year is table stakes for a fifth-year. The audit adjusts scoring accordingly, so you're being measured against the right standard.
The questions are behavioral - about what you actually do, not what you wish you did. That means the feedback is honest, and the guidance is actionable.
What Happens After You Complete It
You'll receive your scores across all 8 categories, showing you:
Where you're already strong (keep doing what you're doing)
Where you're vulnerable (these gaps could derail you if unaddressed)
What to focus on next (the chapters in The Successful Associate that matter most for you right now)
You’re probably not perfect. So the most important thing you can do is to pause, take a moment, and assess where you need to improve next. That takes awareness. Once you know where you stand, you can focus your energy where it'll make the biggest difference.
Who This Is For
Junior associates building their foundation and trying to stand out early
Mid-level associates transitioning to greater responsibility and getting ready to potentially take a run at partnership
If you're wondering whether you're on track, or if you're working hard but not sure you're working on the right things - this audit is for you.
